Support student radio during 'Biffstock'

Andover senior P.J. Wascher and Lahser senior Rachel Fishman get ready for the 24-hour marathon broadcast on WBFH.

The 24 hours of “peace, music...and support of community radio” will continue until 7 a.m. Saturday, April 8. During the “Biffstock“ broadcast, a take on the Woodstock music festival, WBFH students will be collecting money and pledges from listeners in the community to help underwrite radio station operating costs.

“This is a great way to support local broadcasters who make a real difference in the community,” says WBFH Operations Manager, Marathon Co-Chair, and Andover Senior Ryan Fishman.

All 23 WBFH staff students from Andover and Lahser will be on the air live throughout the 24 hours, some staying up for the entire event.

There are three levels of support: Backstage Pass ($100 or more), Pavilion ($50-$100), and Lawn ($25-$50). Listeners who would like to be an underwriter can do so by calling (248) 341-WBFH. They can also stop by the station located at Andover High School (4200 Andover Road) during the marathon. They can also fax in the pledges at (248) 341-:5679, or email their pledges from the WBFH web page (www.wbfh.fm).

WBFH, which can be heard at 88.1 on the FM dial or online at www.wbfh.fm, is licensed to the Board of Education of the Bloomfield Hills School District.

The community radio station is operated by radio broadcasting students from Andover High School and Lahser High School under the supervision of the WBFH management team of Pete Bowers, Station Manager, Randy Carr, Assistant Station Manager/Chief Engineer, and Ron Wittebols, Remote Supervisor/Webmaster.

WBFH has been honored with both national and state recognition this school year. The "Biff" won 1st Place, Best High School Radio Station in a national competition entitled The John Drury High School Radio Awards last October.

The Michigan Association of Broadcasters at their awards luncheon March 14th named WBFH the 2006 High School Station of the Year. It was the fourth year in a row that WBFH had won or tied for that honor.
